‘Suspended at an abrupt right angle is Clarkes’ Hullabaloo, a contemporary conceptualisation of the traditional teapot. Distorted and defiant, Hullabaloo jars against our preconceptions, becoming something alien and unexpected. Not only is it a rebellion against the very form and function of a teapot, it also challenges norms and expectations of silversmithing traditions. Hullabaloo has the capacity to act as a symbolic reminder of the darker side of tea history, a history poisoned by empire and exploitation.’
